FRAMINGHAM – MetroWest Medical Center achieves the Healthgrades 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™.
The distinction makes MetroWest Medical Center one of the top 2 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over- year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
“This is a very significant achievement for MetroWest Medical Center and is a testament to the commitment of our employees and physicians to providing high-quality quality care,” said Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Liebman, in a media statement. “When considering where to go for healthcare, our community can rest assured that our hospital is offering award-winning care close to home, negating the need to travel into Boston.”
From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, 22.3 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and
procedures where mortality is the outcome.
During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved.
For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, a 9.1% lower risk of dying during their hospital stay for Heart Failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.
“Our analysis reveals variation in outcomes for patients, so it’s important for consumers to carefully research and select a hospital,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the recipients of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospital Award™ for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers.”
The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care.
During the 2018 study period (2014-2016), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
