FRAMINGHAM – Amazing Things Arts Center in downtown Framingham will host the Massachusetts semifinals of the Poetry Out-Loud competition.
The event takes place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Amazing Things on Hollis Street. Admission is free. Stay the entire 6 hours or stop by for an hour.
“We are grateful to the folks at Huntington Theatre Company for bringing this competition to Framingham/MetroWest,” said Director Ellen Sturgis.
Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest that celebrates the power of the spoken word and a mastery of public speaking skills while cultivating self-confidence and an appreciation of students’ literary heritage as they take poetry from the page to the stage.
Poetry Out Loud has inspired hundreds of thousands of high school students to discover and appreciate both classic and contemporary poetry.
Students from around Massachusetts will be competing for a spot at the National finals to be held April 23-25 in Washington DC.
The event was created and sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation.
