Framingham State Defeats Bridgewater State 70-57 on Seniors Night

FRAMINGHAM –  In a back and forth game, the Framingham State University women’s basketball team used an 11-2 run over the final three minutes of the third quarter to take the lead for good as the Rams defeated Bridgewater State University 70-57 Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 14-9 on the year and are now 8-3 in league play, while the Bears fall to 9-14 with the loss and are now 5-5 in the Conference.

The Rams were led by a double double effort of 18 points and 12 rebounds from sophomore Mary Kate O’Day. O’Day added four assists and two steals.  Junior Tiphani Harris  recorded 16 points on seven-of-11 from the floor to go along with eight boards including five on the offensive glass.  Sophomore Julia Sanborn added 11 points and four rebounds, while senior Raegan Mulherin and sophomore Emily Velozo  chipped in with nine points apiece.

The Bears were paced by 19 points from senior Chanelle Melton.

The game saw five ties and 15 lead changes with the Rams using an 11-2 run over the final three minutes of the third quarter to erase a two point deficit and take the lead for good.  Harris recorded four points on the spurt, while senior Lauren Donahue added five.

Prior to the game, the Rams recognized their two seniors, Mulherin and Donahue during their Senior Day Ceremony.

The Rams are back in action next Saturday when they close out the regular season at MCLA with a 1 p.m. tipoff.
