FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer is attending the winter meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington DC. The conference is today, January 24 through January 26.
Spicer, according to the City of Framingham’s website, left for the 86th annual event yesterday, January 23.
As Spicer will be out of state for several days, the Charter requires her to submit a letter to the City Council and to the City Clerk designated a “qualified municipal officer” to be acting Mayor.
The City Clerk said the letter was filed and CFO Mary Ellen Kelley was designated as the acting Mayor.
The Mayor missed last night’s Framingham School Committee meeting, and skipped an invitation by the Framingham legislative delegation to attend Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker’s state of the Commonwealth address at the State House to attend the conference in Washington DC. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, one of the speakers at the Conference, attended the state of the Commonwealth last night. Mayor Yvonne Spiceralso attended the the Massachusetts Municipal Association annual event last Friday and Saturday, January 20.
