Hawks Defeat Flyers in MHL Finals

FRAMINGHAM – Xaverian High and Framingham High both had to go to a shootout in the opening round of the My Hockey Live tournament to get to the finals on Thursday night. So you knew the final would be a great hockey game. In the end, the Xaverian Hawks defeated the Flyers 3-2, last night.

The Hawks drew blood first with Ryan Pomposelli getting one past Alex Moore with 13 minutes left in the first period.

Framingham’s Evan Dunlop scored, assisted by PJ Conzo and Nate Nichols, to tie the game 1-1 later in the opening period.

Xaverian’s Josh Barton scored with six minutes left in the second period, to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead headed into the final period.

With two minutes left in the game, Xaverian’s Rob Barletta scored a power play goal to give the Hawks the game winner and a 3-1 lead.

Nichols added a goal with 5 seconds left in the game, but it wasn’t enough.

Nichols and Framingham defenseman Ryan Innis made the all-tournament team.

Next up for the Flyers, under head coach Will Ortiz, is Shrewsbury at North Star Rink in Westborough at 6 on Saturday night.

The Flyers are now 2-4-1 on the season. The 3-2 shootout win over Marshfield in the opening round of the My Hockey Live tournament counts officially as a tie by the MIAA.
