PHOTOS: 4 Framingham Divers Place in Top 13 at State Meet; Flyers Finish 9th Overall

WORCESTER – Four Framingham High divers finished in the top 13 in the MIAA Division 1 State competition on Sunday in Worcester.

Senior Halia Bower successfully defended her state title in the diving competition. Her score of 533.60 also gives her the Framingham High record in diving.

Framingham High’s swim and dive team finished in 9th place overall at the Division 1 State Championship out of 15 teams.

In the diving competition, Framingham High senior Kalena Chin finished seventh overall with 376.55 points. Sophomore Sara Anastasi finished 11th overall and senior Catherine Turner finished 13th in the finals of diving.

The top 16 divers and swimmers earned points for their high school team.

Andover won 10 of the 12 events to take the state title with 488.5 points. Acton-Boxborough was not even a close second with 267.5 points.

Andover sophomore Emily Clements won the 500-yard freestyle event in 5:10.11 minutes. Defending state title holder Kara McCurdy from Framingham has been out all season with an injury, and did not swim in the state meet. McCurdy has committed to Providence College.

Framingham swimmer Jessica Tosi, a sophomore, finished 17th, Julia Long, a senior, finished 23rd, and Casey Libuda, a junior, finished 26th overall.

Framingham finished in 9th place, in all three relays.

In the medley relay, Framingham swimmers Caroline Mazariegos, Emily Rogers, Olivia Nelson and Jillian O’Neil touched the wall in 1:58.50 minutes.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Framingham sophomores Marley DeSimone, Tosi, O’Neil and Tatum O’Leary finished in 1:46.90 minutes.

In the 400-yard freestyle, Flyers O’Leary, DeSimone, Mazariegos, and Tosi swam a 3:52.17 minute relay.

Framingham High junior Rogers swam a personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:13.94 placed her 18th overall.

In order to compete in the MIAA Division 1 state meet, swimmers need to meet a qualifying time.

Flyer Mazariegos finished 8th overall in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.74 minutes.

Andover freshman Isabella Korby won the race in 58.18 seconds.

Framingham senior Nelson finished 16th overall in 1:05.97 minutes. Junior Libuda finished 26th overall in 1:08.58 minutes.

Andover junior Victoria Ambrose won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.28 seconds.  Framingham sophomore DeSimone and O’Neil finished in 18th and in 23rd place.

Mia Galat, a junior at Andover High, won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.98 seconds. Framingham senior Nelson finished in 16th place with a time of 1:04.34 minutes. Sophomore O’Leary finished in 21st place at 1:06.28 minutes.

Andover High senior Sophia Ju won the sprint event in 24.28 seconds.

Flyer DeSimone was Framingham’s best swimmer in the 50-yard freestyle, taking 20th place in 26.60 seconds. Sophomore Tosi was 25th in 26.77 seconds, with O’Neil 27th in 26.97 seconds. Framingham senior Niamh White was 28th in 27.08 seconds.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Framingham sophomore O’Leary finished 17th overall in 2:23.29 minutes. Mazariegos was 20th in 2:24.03 minutes.

Galat won the 200-yard freestyle event in 1:53.18 minutes. Framingham sophomore Julakis finished 21st overall in 2:08.84 minutes. Senior Long was 24th in 2:10.28 minutes.
