UPDATED: Screening Committee To Hire New McCarthy Elementary Principal Announced


Editor’s Note: Report has been updated. Framingham Public Schools first provided only 15 names and there are 16 names on the committee.


FRAMINGHAM – A 16-member screening committee will begin reviewing resume for Principal at McCarthy Elementary School next week.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources announced the 15-member screening committee, today, November 10.

The chair of the committee is Interim Director of Elementary Education Amy Bright.

Interim McCarthy Elementary Principal is Assistant Superintendent of School Frank Tiano.

Tiano was appointed after a failed search this summer. Former Principal Matthew Hanlon stepped down in June 2017.

Other members of the committee are McCarthy teachers Elena Figueroa Staroselsky, Kristine Parker, and Lisa Zanella, McCarthy PTO Co-Presidents Kate Schneider and Kelly Holland,  parents Kara Fink and Nicky Towle, literacy coach, Brett Berkman, Framingham Director of Bilingual Education Genoveffa Grieci, Framingham Director of Special Education Laua Spear, ELL coach Molly Shveda, Framingham Director of Healtha nd Wellness Judith Styer, Potter Road Principal Paul Del Prete, King Elementary Principal Kim Taylor, and Executive Director of the Office of the Superintendent Nancy Piasecki.

The Committee will screen resumes on Monday, Nov. 13, Tuesday, Nov. 14, and if needed Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m., said London.

The Committee will interview candidates on Monday, Nov. 27, Tuesday, Nov. 28, and if needed, Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Upon recommending the finalists, the screening committee’s responsibilities will end, said London.
The finalists will meet with the community, parents, and school staff the week of December 4.
The final decision rests with Framingham Superintendent of Schools Bob Tremblay.
