11 Organizations Apply To Be the 5 Team Framingham 2018 Charities

FRAMINGHAM – Eleven organizations applied to be the five Team Framingham 2018 charities.

The five Team Framingham 2018 charities will be selected by random drawing on Monday December 4, as part of the event where the 22 team runners will be selected.

The revised charity selection process was approved by the Framingham Board of Selectmen in September.

Local charities had the opportunity to apply to be a coveted Team Framingham 2018 charity between September 20 and November  3.

The following eleven charities submitted applications by the deadline. All applications complied with the requirements set forth by the Board of Selectmen:

  • Land Conservation and Advocacy Trust
  • Amazing Things
  • United Way of Tri-County
  • Framingham History Center
  • Resiliency for Life
  • Framingham High School Foundation
  • Friends of Framingham Library
  • Hoops and Homework
  • Friends of Callahan Senior Center
  • Adult ESL
  • Voices Against Violence

The Team Framingham program was established in 2014 and is comprised of 20-25 runners who participate in the Boston Marathon via invitational entries Framingham receives from the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.). The major goals of the Team Framingham program are:
• Provide town residents and town and school employees with an opportunity to participate in the Boston
• Provide locally based charities with an opportunity to benefit from fundraising associated with the invitational

Since 2014 team runners have raised close to $270,000 for deserving local charities and 88 of 91 team runners have successfully completed the demanding Boston Marathon course.

The application period for team runners opened on Monday October 2nd and will close promptly at 4 p.m. on Monday November 27.

The random selection to choose the runners and charities is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday December 4 in the Ablondi room at Town Hall. The drawing is open to the public.
