FRAMINGHAM – Stop Toxic Operations and Polluters (S.T.O.P.) one of Framingham’s environmental organizations is endorsing John Stefanini for Mayor.

Framingham has over 500 hazardous environmental sites.

While most of these are in South Framingham, S.T.O.P. is concerned with all contaminated sites.

Due to the limited regulatory personnel on the Town, State and Federal level there is a need for local advocacy and action.

By having a strong coalition of members and supporters, working with town departments, community leaders, area businesses and neighbors, we can monitor and improve these hazardous sites. Education of the public is key to accomplishing our goal.

Stefanini understands and supports Environmental Justice which is based on the principal that all people have the right to be protected from environmental pollution and to live in and enjoy a clean and healthful environment.

Historically, there has been a disproportionate burden of industrial pollution on people of color and low-income communities like the Environmental Justice neighborhoods in Southeast Framingham.

Early in his Mayoral campaign (June 14, 2017) Source published – “OP-ED: Stefanini Says Environment Needs to be a Top Priority for Framingham.” His environmental policies include “Clean-up environmentally contaminated sites throughout our community, including 350 Irving Street and Dennison Park, prevent pollution, stop pollution and hold environmental polluters responsible.”

As with many other difficult issues our new City will face, Stefanini has a plan to deal with this centuries-old problem: “To achieve these goals, we need to make our environment one of our top priorities. Currently in Framingham, no one person is charged with monitoring and managing our progress to achieve these goals. As Mayor, I will assign this significant responsibility a full-time Director of  Environmental Integrity who will be accountable to get this done.”

Stefanini is a problem solver with a commitment to our community that is unparalleled. With his depth of experience and ability to work with State officials we have confidence that the Environmental issues in our Community will no longer be ignored.
