Our new city government needs a leader who will work to build a great future for our kids, while keeping Framingham affordable for our residents, especially our seniors. We need someone who has experience with government budgets and who can advocate for us on Beacon Hill.
For me, that person is John Stefanini.
John has first-hand experience with Framingham’s budget.
As a selectman, especially in the days when the three member Board of Selectmen had the same powers the mayor will have in our new government, John was worked on creating a budget for our community. He also sought our creative solutions to pressing issues, such as when we needed to build a new school and we did not have the funds to do so. He brought different stakeholders together and developed a plan to sell land at 9/90, which is where Staples currently has their headquarters. The revenue from 9/90 gave us the funds for our schools, and we continue to benefit from the tax revenue from Staples.
In the 16 years since John has left public service to practice law and raise his kids and teach at Suffolk University, he has remained active in our community.
From coaching lacrosse to volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club and Hoops & Homework and serving as a member of the MetroWest Medical Center Board of Trustees, the Lodge of Elks and Columbus Club, John has never stopped working for us.
It is this experience, plus his municipal experience and listening to his neighbors that has influenced the bold ideas John has proposed throughout his campaign.
Today when we find ourselves needing additional funding from the state, we lean on our legislators for help. While I give major kudos to Reps. Walsh, Lewis, Gentile and Sen. Spilka for always supporting us; wouldn’t it be even better if we had a mayor, with knowledge of how Beacon Hill works, to be there with them to further advocate on our behalf? Imagine if that person was John, with his 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors plus his already established relationships with the folks in the State House? I am excited by the possibilities for our community!
Our first city government needs that person who is ready day one. Someone who has the experience in government with budgets, creative bold ideas and whose knowledge of the way Beacon Hill works will really give us a seat at the table.
Please join me in voting for John Stefanini on Tuesday, November 7.
