Rams Defeat Buccaneers 5-1

FRAMINGHAM –  The Framingham State women’s soccer team defeated visiting Mass. Maritime by a score of 5-1 in Conference action Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the victory the Rams improve to 3-8-1 and 1-4 in league play.

The Buccaneers are now 3-7 and also 1-4 in the conference.

The Rams struck first in the 8th minute when Kayla Almstrom  sent a cross through the box that deflected off a Buccaneers player and into the net.

The visitors responded a few moments later when Jessica Baldassini intercepted a Rams pass, dribbled around a defender and sent in a strike from about 20 yards.

The host Rams recaptured the lead in the 39th minute when a MMA foul setup a free kick from about 25 yards that Kaleigh Pallotta buried in the top right corner of the frame.

The Rams added an insurance goal at the 50-minute mark when Caitlin Our tapped in a long cross from Kaelen Laroque.

The Rams added two goals in the final minutes. The first was in the 88th minute when Shelly Nardi tipped in a ball on the open side of the net after a deflection in front of the net. Then in the final minute Almstrom scored her second of the game when she sent in a shot from 25 yards out that bounced in front of the Rams keeper and skipped by her on the wet turf.

Jennifer Stevens made 6 stops in the win for the Rams. Mikayla Houlihan turned away 10 shots in net for the Buccaneers.

The Rams outshot the visitors 26-to-14 and took 8 corners to the Buccaneers 1.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, October 17, when they host UMass Boston in non-conference action.
