FRAMINGHAM – Hulk Hogan, Richards Simmons, Olivia Newton John, Axl Rose, and Gumby helped raise $1,825 for a Framingham charity last weekend.
Well, sort of.
Sharon Gilbert, founder of Timothy’s Toy Box, held an exclusive ’80s party in her backyard last Saturday night as a fundraiser. The party was limited to 105 guests, many of who arrived in costume. Gilbert was dressed as exercise guru Richard Simmons, and her son Tim wore a Gumby costume for part of the night.
Gilbert wanted to thanks Gianni’s Pizza and Subs and CJ’s NorthSide Grill for donating food. Other donations came from Post Road Liquors, DJ Felix Quinones, and an amazing MTC cake by Alicia Cohen.
This is the 11th year of Timothy’s Toy Box.
Sharon and her son Timothy set up a non-profit corporation to help local children in need during the holiday season in 2007.
Since that first year, they have delivered more than 7,500 new toys to local homeless shelters, churches, hospitals, and schools, as well as many other local families in need.
But the Framingham-based organization does more than give gifts, it allows parents to be a part of the giving. Timothy’s Toy Box also purchases wrapping paper, tape, scissors, tags, batteries, and blankets for the parents so that they have everything they need to create holiday memories.
Last year, Timothy’s Toy Box provided 600-plus toys to boys and girls in need.
