FRAMINGHAM – A national chain wants to open a restaurant in the former O’Connell’s Pub, off Route 9 east in Framingham.

Framingham Board of Selectmen approved a common victualler license Tuesday night for Flavors LLC and approved a request for an all-alcohol restaurant license for the restaurant.

Proposed for the former pub site is Bawarchi Biryanis, which already has more than 30 locations across the United States. The Indian restaurant opened its first location in Massachusetts in Weymouth last Friday. That location has a lunch buffet seven days a week.

The proposed Bawarchi Biryanis will be the third Indian restaurant to open in Framingham this year.

Bawarchi Biryanis’ menu features both north and south Indian cuisine.

The website describes the menu as “traditional dishes, modern interpretations of classics and innovative flavor combinations suitable for every palate.”

No date was announced for its opening.
