Francis R. Mellen, 86

FRAMINGHAM – Francis R. Mellen, known primarily as “Mick” of Framingham died peacefully at UMass Memorial Medical Center on July 5, 2017 at the age of 86.

Mick will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

He is survived by his beloved children Karen Smith and her husband Richard of Ashland, Nancy DeSiata and her husband Dennis of Dennis. Kevin Mellen and his wife Sandra of Shrewsbury, Debra Owen and her husband Kevin of Ashland, Mike Mellen and his wife Beth of Holliston, John Terasconi of Framingham and his companion Jillian Jaena and his dog Bentley. Along with his children, Mick also had 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Mellen; his parents; and granddaughter, Cheryl Ault.

Born on August 15, 1930 in Boston, he grew up on Cape Cod before making Framingham his home.

He had a passion for sports but especially baseball the NY Yankees being his favorite team. His loved Yankees outfielder Mickey Mantle so much that his friends and family promptly gave him the nick name Mick. He enjoyed listening to old tunes from artist such as Johnny Mathis, Rosemary Clooney. His enthusiasm of animals big and small was unmatched. He wasn’t often seen without his dog Bentley by his side.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday July 9, from 3 to 6 p.m at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St, Framingham.

Funeral Mass will be Monday July 10, 2017 at 10 am at St. Stephen’s Church, 221 Concord Street (Rt. 126) in Framingham. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.

In Lieu of flowers his family has requested that donations be made to the ASPCA or Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
