It is with great pleasure that we recognize Lydia Jones as the “You Are Special” honoree for King Elementary School.
Lydia has been the school counselor at King since its inception during the 2014-2015 school year.
She joined King with enthusiasm and motivation to be involved in the growth and development of the new school community and has played a key role in being a consistent connection for the families of King over the past 3 years.
She has had to be a “jack-of-all-trades” as she has greatly assisted with counseling, social work, and administrative tasks while the school grows.
This year, our school has begun an extremely successful mentoring program with FHS scholar athletes who provide consistent visits for some of our at-risk students.
Lydia has been instrumental in facilitating this program by preparing weekly lessons on topics to support social/emotional development, and making strong, solid connections between King and FHS students.
The smiles and excitement evidenced by the King students each week are due in part to the work that Lydia has done for this new program! Lydia Jones is an advocate for children and teachers, alike.
She is a role-model for her peers as she is consistently seeking out professional development opportunities to grow professionally.
Lydia serves as the FTA building rep on behalf of her colleagues.
Her ability to model the Open Circle curriculum for new staff and connect with some of our most challenging students is admirable. Her colleagues rely on her for support and guidance in so many situations, and we are lucky to have her on our staff.
