FRAMINGHAM – The Bruce Katz Band kicked off the Town of Framingham’s Friday night summer concert series last night, June 23.
Katz is a four-time (2008, 2009, 2010, 2015) nominee for the Blues Music Award (W.C. Handy Award) for “Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year,” selected by the Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of the Gregg Allman Band from 2007-2013. Katz was also an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music for 14 years (1996-2010).
His band is a trio of musicians. The band’s latest album was released in September 2016 titled Out From The Center. The album officially is “Bruce Katz Band featuring Chris Vitarello,” as Chris really steps out singing on four tunes and writing and co-writing a number of the others.
The band has toured the U.S. and in Europe and performed last night from 6:30 to 8:30.
Families and residents brought chairs and blankets and enjoyed the first concert of the summer, sponsored by the Framingham Parks and Recreation Department. Chick Fil-A and Centre Pizza served up food for hungry attendees and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream truck was parked near Historic Village Hall.
MutualOne Bank, The Rotary Club of Framingham, Fountain Street Artists, and the League of Women Voters had tents at the Framingham center Common, along with a bunch of politicians running for office in the first City of Framingham election.
Concerts continue through mid-August on Friday nights at the Framingham Center Common from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (Schedule below).
