FRAMINGHAM – School Committee candidate for District 7 Ben McNamee has withdrawn from the city election.
McNamee posted the following statement today, June 21:
“After doing some reflecting over these last few days I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for School Committee. I worry that my schedule will not allow for me to commit the time to the position that the residents in district 7 deserve from their representative. I believe the School Committee will be in a unique place and will be drastically changed for the better with more equal representation from across the whole city. In order for that positive impact to take place, the committee will need members who can commit the extensive amount of time to the position.”
McNamee also wrote “I have learned a lot from talking to people and putting myself out there through this, albeit short, campaign. I hope to return to run for school committee in the future, but for now I will be focusing my time and energy on work, family, and being a new homeowner. Thank you for your support thus far and I trust that you all will remain engaged with Framingham politics as well as keeping an eye on the developments that come out of the state house and Washington.”
With the withdrawal of McNamee, former Hemenway PTO President and current Walsh Vice-President Tiffanie Maskell is the only candidate in the race.
