Burgess Finishes 21st in State’s Decathlon

BURLINGTON – Framingham High sophomore Ben Burgess finished in 21st place overall in the state’s decathlon at Burlington High on Tuesday, said head coach Chris Collins.

Junior James Brumfield of St. Mary’s in Lynn won the decathlon with a personal best 5,480 points.

Burgess scored 41,90 points. He scored 3,769 points in 2016.

Burgess won the 1500-meter race in 4:18.70 minutes.

“That is the equivalent of a 4:38 mile after doing 9 events prior within 50 hours time,” said Collins.

In the decathlon, Burgess finished 10th in the 400-meter race with a personal record of 55.60 seconds.

His overall finish at the state’s decathlon puts a “superb finish on a tremendous sophomore season capped at States with a  1:59.75 800 meter,” said Collins.

Framingham High junior captain Nathan Halberstadt finished 22nd overall with 4,189 points. He scored 3,847 points last year.
Sophomore John Lam finished in 33rd place overall with 3,893 points.
The decathlon ends the Framingham High outdoor tracks season.
