The following is an announcement submitted by the candidate, per the Framingham Source election policy. As per the policy, the statement is published below as submitted.
My name is Tiffanie Maskell, and I am pleased to announce that I am running for the Framingham School Committee District 7 seat.
My husband Don and I have 2 children. One is currently in 8th grade at Walsh Middle School and our other son is at BLOCKS and will be entering Kindergarten in the fall. My husband is a Framingham School Department employee, currently working at Walsh as the night foreman.
As a parent of children in the system, I am deeply invested in its short and long-term success. I have lived in Framingham for almost 20 years and my husband and his family have lived here for generations. We are proud to call Framingham our home.
Giving back to the community has always been important to me. I have served as a town meeting member, former Co-Chairman of the Framingham Celebration Committee, and as a member of the Parent Steering Committee for the Framingham Frogs Swim Team for 6 years.
When my oldest son entered kindergarten at Hemenway, I worked to find ways to enrich both his and his peer’s school experience. I was Co-President of Hemenway PTO for 2 years and have been active in PTO for 9 years. I volunteered in his classrooms and chaperoned school field trips. I am aware of special education issues and served as secretary for F-SEPAC. I am currently the Co-Vice President of the PTSO at Walsh.
In my personal life, I was a school bus driver in the Hopkinton School District for 6 years and am currently an active leader in church, working with children and youth. I have been fortunate to work with so many amazing teachers, staff, and administrators in our town.
While the Framingham schools have made tremendous strides and offer great opportunities for our children, I believe we can still work to make improvements. As a member of the School Committee, I will dedicate my energy and efforts to ensure that our students and educators have schools that are exciting places to work and learn. I will strive to enhance a system that is responsive and receptive to parents, staff, students, and the community at large, encouraging an open dialogue. Finally, I will work to clarify and prioritize the school system’s needs.
When voting on November 7, please consider voting for me, Tiffanie Maskell, for the School Committee District 7 seat.
