Framingham Traffic and Roadway Safety Committee Rejects Additional Crosswalk on A Street

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Traffic and Roadway Safety Committee opted against an additional crosswalk on A Street.

Yuriy Davidovich, who lives at 5 Dunham Road, requested a crosswalk at Dunham Road and A Street so residents could cross for the MWRTA bus stop.

Framingham Police Lt. Robert Downing said few students crossing there. Framingham High is located on A Street.

Town Engineer Eric Johnson said the proposed crosswalk was a  mid-block crosswalk, which is not preferred because it gives “pedestrians a false sense of safety.”

He said there is a blind hill on A Street, and drivers would only see the crosswalk when they were less than 100 feet from it.

Johnson, who is the chair of the Committee, said a mid-block crosswalk, where there is a blind curve is “dangerous.”
