Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late Harold & Anna (Peterson) Lee, and husband of the late Geraldine (Bracken).
Lee grew up in Newton and moved to Framingham as a teenager.
At 20 years old he began his career with the Polaroid Corp, where he worked as a mechanic for 42 years.
An avid sports fan, Lee coached Framingham Youth Football, Baseball and Basketball for many years.
He could be found on the sidelines at every Walpole High School football game coached by his brother John, and later King Philip High School games coached by his nephew Brian. He was an accomplished racquetball player, and especially loved to spend time outdoors working in his yard and fishing.
Lee is survived by his companion of 25 years, Anita M. Coffin of Lexington, his children, Gene I. Jr. & his wife Amy, Debbie L. Yacyshyn & her husband Alex, his step children, Joseph Coffin & his wife Kim, Jean Dolan & her husband Robert, Kenneth Coffin, David Coffin & his wife Gabrielle, Julie Bernier & her husband Chris, and Deb Ruel & her husband Frank, his cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Jamie, Troy, Shayna, Mikayla, Brendan, Hannah, Michael, Jason, Olivia, Joey, Christopher, Isabella, Maya, and Matthew, his brother John & his wife Betty, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember his life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham, on Sunday, February 26, from 1 to 5 p.m.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning in St. Stephen’s Church, 221 Concord St. at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery.
