FRAMINGHAM – Framingham junior captain Cole Bassett set a school record at the Division 1 State Championship swim meet at Boston University on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Bassett finished in fifth place in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 21.79 seconds.
The time was a Framingham High school record. Bassett broke his own record he set his freshman year.
Bassett finished 11th in the 100-yard backstroke on Sunday with a time of 56.42 seconds.
Central Catholic senior Drew Carbone won the backstroke event in 49.34 seconds, a meet record.
Framingham diver Sean Andrews finished ninth at the state meet, with a total of 412.85 points.
Saint John Prep’s Ben Blizard won the diving championships with 575.85 points.
Overall, the Flyers finished in 18th place overall with 39 points. Saint John’s Prep won the championship with 263 points. Chelmsford finished second, and Acton-Boxborough finished third.
Framingham freshman Leone Kisler competed in the 500 freestyle yesterday, but did not place.
Junior Cole Geiser competed in the 100-yard breaststroke for Framingham and finished in 17th place, just out of scoring points. His time was 1:03.79 minutes. His seeding time was 1:05.96 seconds.
The Flyers also qualified three relay teams for yesterday’s state championship meet – medley, 200-freestyle, and 400-freestyle.
The medley relay team of Bassett, Geiser, Joshua Cohen and Ray Wong finished 15th in a time of 1:44.26 minutes.
The Flyers 200-yard freestyle relay finished 14th with a time of 1:33.42 minutes. On the team was Wong, Aiden O’Leary, Cohen, and Bassett.
The Flyers were disqualified in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The boys sectional meet was not held this year due to a snowstorm.
