SLIDESHOW: Moore Sensational in Flyers 2-0 Win Over Xavierian

FRAMINGHAM – Flyer goaltender Alex Moore backboned a 2-0 Flyer win over Catholic Conference team Xaverian on Senior Night at Loring Arena.

Moore was a standout throughout the night, but the first period was something special, shutting the door on the Hawks time after time.

With the non-league victory, the Flyers improve their record to 11-5-44, and have qualified for post-season play.

The Framingham High boys hockey team is 10-2-3 in the Bay State League, under first-year head coach Will Ortiz.

“It was a team effort tonight,” said Ortiz.

“It was a war,” said Ortiz of the back and forth game between two teams that are headed to post-season.

“Alex was our player of the game,” said Ortiz, after the game. “He had laser focus tonight.”

Ortiz said Moore gave the Flyers the opportunity to win the game, stopping Xaverian from scoring all night.

The Flyers opened the scoring with 11:57 left in the first period.

On the power play and Flyers moved the puck along the perimeter, with Ben Stefanini and Michael Tersoni exchanging passes. Stefanini then moved the puck down the right wing side to Sam Barnett who found Tersoni all alone off the left post.  Tersoni buried the shot the for a 1-0 Flyers lead.

“We had been working on our power play all week long,” said Ortiz. “It is a testimony to the team’s commitment that it paid off tonight.”

Moore was a standout in net, stopping a constant Hawks attack in the first period as the Flyers carried a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The Flyers played a strong second period with several good scoring opportunities.

Before a large home crowd at Loring Arena the Flyers opened the third period with high intensity and several quality scoring opportunities but as Xaverian continued to press Moore held them at bay, making numerous stops to sustain the 1-0 Flyer lead.

With the Hawks goalie pulled for the extra skater the Flyers held strong in the defensive zone, with a blocked shot leading to Scott Swennes beating winning a loose puck battle in the neutral zone.

Flyer center Joey MacInnis picked up the puck, pivoted, spun to his right and buried the puck into the open  net to put the Flyers up 2-0.

Before the game, the Flyers honored the seniors on the team.

Next up for the Flyers is the Cahoon Tournament on Tuesday night in Burlington.
