NEW BEDFORD – Framingham High sophomores Ben Burgess and Jon Lam were both winners at the Walter “Ziggy” Janiak track meet at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School today, February 5.
The annual track meet for freshmen and sophomores is named after a Naval Veteran, who was the first superintendent of that school.
“It was a superb day for the Flyers today,” said head coach Chris Collins. “A bunch of top 6 finished for the young Flyers who only had 11 travel to the meet … but did they ever perform!”
Lam won the 55-meter dash in 7.09 seconds.
Sophomore Nick Seeto finished fourth in the 55-meter dash in 7.29 seconds.
The Flyers went 1-2 in the 600-meter race. Burgess won the 600-meter race in 1:33.28 minutes.
Last year, as a freshman Burgess won the mile in 5:08.09 minutes at the Janiak meet.
Sophomore Kevin Braganca finished second in the 600-meter with a time of 1:36.70 minutes.
The Flyers finished second in the 4 by 400 relay. On the ream was Seeto, Lam, Branganca and Burgess.
Next up for the Framingham High girls indoor track team is the Bay State Conference meet on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
A handful of Flyers have qualified for the state meet scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18.
