Conzo’s Hat Trick Leads Flyers Over Warriors 7-1

FRAMINGHAM – Paced by a PJ Conzo third period hat trick and 6-point night for Ben Stefanini (1 goal, 5 assists), the Framingham High boys ice hockey team defeated Brookline High 7-1 at Loring Arena Saturday night.

With the win, the Flyers improve to 6-3-2 and 6-1-1 in the Bay State.

Framingham travels to Walpole Wednesday for a game against the undefeated Rebels at Rodman Arena.

The Flyers dominated the first period, opening the scoring on a Nate Nichols goal assisted by Stefanini.   He walked out of the right wing corner and found Nichols high in the slot. Nichols buried the puck past the Brookline goalie.

Moments later on the power play, Stefanini took a Scott Swennes pass and put a wrist shot from the point past the Brookline goalie to put the Flyers up 2-0.

The first period ended 2-0.

With 5:49 left in the second period, and the Flyers on the power play, Ryan Innis added to the lead.  Innis picked up a Swennes rebound to the Brookline goalie’s left and ripped a wrist shot top shelf to make the game 3-0.  Swennes and Stefanini assisted on the goal.  That was the only goal of the middle period and the Flyers carried a 3-0 lead into the final period.

The Flyers broke the game open in third period.

With 11:37 left in the third period PJ Conzo put the Flyers up 4-0.

The Flyers brought the puck into the Brookline zone, with Stefanini holding the puck high outside the left wing circle he found Conzo breaking to the net down the right wing.  Joey Macinnis assisted on the goal.

The Macinnis-Stefanini-Conzo line wasn’t done.

On the same shift,  sophomore Conzo added another.  Stefanini and Macinnis dug the puck out of the right wing corner, cycling it below the Brookline net.  Macinnis picked it up, came around the other side of the net and fed Conzo in front for a one-timer and a 5-0 Flyer lead.

Brookline got on the board with 9:41 left in the game, scoring on a rebound goal out front of the Flyer net.

But just a minute later at the 8:25 mark, Nichols won a face-off inside the Brookline zone back to Swennes.  He ripped a wrist shot high inside the left post to put the Flyers up 6-1.

With 3:18 left in the game Conzo completed his third period pure hat trick.

With the puck inside the Brookline zone, Stefanini carried the puck up the left wing boards, leaving it for defenseman Jack LaPlante who carried it down the boards and found Conzo out front.  Conzo tipped the puck past the Brookline goalie for a 7-1 Flyer lead.

Flyers goalies Dominic Schiappa and Max Morales combined in net for the win.
