FRAMINGHAM – Over the winter vacation, King Elementary students were very busy readers.
Students in grades kindergarten through grade 2 were challenged to keep track of the number of minutes they read between December 24 and January 2. They also filled in a Bingo board with different reading activities. Both ideas were the brain child of King Elementary literacy coach Emily Burke.
Students were motivated and excited about the chance to win a hot chocolate party for their class.
Parents reported that children were reading everywhere and everything during this vacation, said Principal Kim Taylor.
The winning class read more than 7,000 minutes.
The winning class for the most returned bingo boards brought back 15 completed boards.
Burke looks forward to developing future vacation reading challenges, as a lead up to our big summer reading motivation program at the end of the school year, said Taylor.
