FRAMINGHAM – The Tavern in downtown Framingham is being sold.
Owner Paul Sanford, who has operated the establishment at 102 Irving Street, is selling the business after eight years of ownership to Scagnetti Group LLC.
The bar will soon be known as Danny Sullivan’s, and operated by Dan Wetherbee and George Sullivan.
Last night, Framingham Selectmen approved the all-alcohol license 4-0-1, with chair Cheryl Tully Stoll abstaining. The other licenses, including the one for live bands, were all approved 5-0.
The two new owners told Selectmen, they will continue to serve food and keep the current employees. Sanford said he would help with the transition for a couple of months.
The new owners also plan to highlight live music and local bands.
Selectmen praised Sanford, who took over the dive bar eight years ago for turning the establishment around.
Framingham Selectmen said they were happy to only see him twice – once when he applied for the license and last night. Sanford also hosted several charity events, and events for the Framingham Downtown Renaissance.
The new owners will have six months to install a grease trap in the kitchen.
