It was a cold and rainy morning at the Milton High School field. The 5th grade Flyers were wearing their new super-duper, pink Breast Cancer Awareness socks which gave them a feeling of pinkness and pride.
At the start of the game, the Framingham defense held Milton to a 3rd and 5 but there was a 15 yard face mask penalty which gave Milton a first down. On Framingham’s first drive, they went 4 and out. On Milton’s next drive, they scored a passing touchdown and then got the extra point to give them the lead 7-0.
To start the 2nd quarter, Framingham’s Derek Bilton handed off the ball to Max Stevelman who then threw the ball to Nick Anderson. Nick ran the ball in for a 60 yard touchdown. Unlike Milton, Framingham failed to complete the extra point so the score was 7-6.
On the next drive, Mitch Goldberg broke up the pass on 4th down to give Framingham the ball. Framingham’s Max Stevelman threw the ball to Jace Coleman who then ran it in for a 50 yard touchdown. Max then slid over the goal line to get the extra point, giving Framingham the lead, 13-7.
On the next drive, the Milton offense failed to score, and turned the ball over to Framingham. Under significant pressure from Milton’s defense, Derek Bilton was able to pitch the ball while being spun around. Yeandiel Cora snagged the ball and then evaded multiple Milton defenders to get a first down and more.
Unfortunately, Framingham was unable to convert and the score was 13-7 at the end of the half.
To open the second half, Jace Coleman returned the kickoff for a touchdown, but it was called back to Milton’s 20-yard line due to a block in the back penalty on Framingham. Unfortunately, Framingham was unable to score. On their next drive, Milton passed the ball, but 2 Framingham players, Willard Claude and Mitch Goldberg, tipped it towards Framingham’s Mason Calvert who was able to intercept. Max Stevelman passed to Yeandiel Cora for a 60 yard touchdown but was unable to convert the extra point making the score 19-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Milton had gained momentum on their drive at the beginning of the 4th quarter but was shut down when Mitch Goldberg sacked the quarterback. Framingham’s Jace Coleman ran for what should have been his 3rd touchdown of the game, but it was called back for a holding penalty. Further into the drive, Max Stevelman passed to Caiden Whitney who ran it in for a touchdown. Framingham attempted to kick an extra point and failed. The score was 25-7 with a minute left in the game.
Milton put together an impressive drive, and were able to throw a pass on the last play of the game for a touchdown. On the extra point attempt, Milton snapped the ball on “down” before anyone was set. The holder who got the ball proceeded to toss it back to the center, who was not prepared and the ball was laying on the ground like an egg. Framingham and Milton both jumped on the ball to end the game.
The final score was 25-13 putting the Framingham 5th grade Flyers at 4-1 for the season.
Up next, Flyers play away in Walpole on Saturday, October 8.
