NEWTON – Chance Yan broke the Suburban Summer Swim League record in the backstroke, for the 13-14 age group, in the preliminary round of the regional meet at Gath Pool in Newton yesterday, August 13.
Yan, who will be a freshman at Marian High in September, swam the 50-yard backstroke in 26.04 seconds.
And then the Framingham swimmer broke his own record in the finals, with a 25.40 second time, to win the league title in that stroke for his age group.
Yan broke the previous league record held by Cole Bassett, set in 2015.
Bassett, who will be a junior at Framingham High, had held the record at 26.29 seconds.
