Suspect Involved in UMass Lockdown In Court

BELCHERTOWN – Framingham resident William McKeown was in a Belchertown courtroom today, June 21, on charges related to the UMass Amherst lockdown on February 18.

No decisions were made today. He is next scheduled in court on July 27.

A Northhampton grand jury is considering an indictment of McKeown, according to sources.

McKeown was arrested the day after the lockdown, and charged with robbery of a UMass student.

He is on bail, and being monitored with a GPS system.

Shawn Wyatt, 23, of Framingham, was arrested and plead guilty to larceny and assault and battery charges. He was sentenced to two years in jail, in May.

Wyatt told prosecutors he and McKeown went to the UMass campus on February 18 in order to sell marijuana to the victim. Instead of providing the student with real marijuana, they gave the student shredded vegetables. Wyatt struck the victim. And, both men ran off with the victim’s cash. The school was placed on lockdown for almost 2 hours, as here was a report of a gun used in the robbery, but it ended up being a bb gun.
