SLIDESHOW: Volunteers Place 2,500 Flags on Veterans’ Graves

Saturday morning, about 150 volunteers replaced more than 2,500 flags on the graves of Veterans at Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framigham.

There were more than 100 youth who participated, including a very large contingent of Framingham Girl Scouts.

Some years, the task of replacing the flags has taken 2-3 hours. Yesterday, it was completed in about 60 to 90 minutes.

”With all the hills at this cemetery and thousands of graves, youth and enthusiasm gets the job done,” said Framingham Veterans Agent Peter Harvell.

“It is especially touching that our Veteran Services agent, Peter Harvell asks every participant to say the name of the veteran when replacing the flag, because the volunteer would likely be the only person who visited that year,” said Framingham Veterans Council member Dawn Ross, who is a U.S. Navy Veteran.
