Sixth grade students at Walsh Middle School participated in the 2nd Annual Poetry Cafe last week.
Throughout the month of April, students explored the poetic devices and writing styles that authors use to craft poems. They were then charged with writing several original poems and choosing one to perform during Thursday’s May event.
This exercise aided in strengthening the students’ speaking and listening skills, essential for college and career readiness.
Dressed in black and wearing berets, the grade six ELA teachers, Mrs. Ciccarelli, Ms. Sanford, Ms. Reedy, Mrs. Dowd, Mrs. O’Rourke, and Mrs. Green, guided and coached the students through this wonderful event.
Many other staff members and parents were also in attendance.
