Stewart-Morales & Hooper-Hamersley New Co-Chair of Framingham Democratic Committee

FRAMINGHAM – With embattled chair Mike Hugo stepping down today, March 2, the Framingham Democratic Committee announced its co-vice chairs would take over as co-chair of the committee.

“The Executive Committee of the Framingham Democratic Committee (FDC) has received notice from Michael Hugo of his decision to resign from his position as Chair of the FDC. In accordance with the bylaws of the FDC, Rosamond Hooper-Hamersley and Cesar Stewart-Morales will fill the vacancy as Co-Chairs of the FDC effective immediately,” said a press release announced today.

All of the executive committee members in attendance supported no to have a special meeting to consider the removal of Hugo as chair at Sunday’s Framingham Democratic Committee meeting.

The vote was 11-6-1 to not have a meeting to discuss FDC leadership and possible removal of Hugo, after he made controversial statements both written and oral to the City Council on February 7.

Hugo, while apologizing for his remarks, refused to step down as the leader of the Framingham Democratic Committee.

Earlier today, Senate President Karen Spilka called for him to step down, and within hours Hugo submitted his resignation.

At that Sunday meeting, executive committee members Hooper-Hamersley, Larry Stoodt, Parwez Wahid, and Doug Lawrence were part of the 16 who voted not to discuss the leadership of the party.

District 2 City Councilor Stewart-Morales and former Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer did not attend Sunday’s FDC meeting.

Also not in attendance at the meeting was Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis who had been quiet on the issue publicly until after Spilka made a statement today.

State Rep. Priscila Sousa condemned Hugo’s statement in an opinion piece to SOURCE a week after the statements were made.
