With New Coach, Broncos Open Season This Weekend With 10 New Freshman, Too

FRAMINGHAM – Keefe Technical High School’s co-ed hockey program has a new coach, Framingham resident Michael Clark.

The program is competing at a level below varsity for the 2022-23 season.

Coach Clark said 10 freshman tried out for the program, “which is a record high in recent” years.

The Broncos have 17 skaters and three goaltenders for the 2022-23 season. One of the goalies is a junior girl, said the head coach.

“I was thrilled to see so many players try out, especially our 10 freshman. As we begin to grow this program I expect that this trend will continue. Word is getting out about playing for Keefe Tech Hockey,” said Coach Clark.

“We practice across the street from school. We have excellent support from coaches John McGuire and Jay Ball, our Athletic Director Don Marini, the school administration led by Principal Snow, our alumni, and the entire student body. And we are looking to do more and more each season, to enrich the program experience and represent Keefe well beyond just practices and games,” said Coach Clark.

Leading the Broncos will be captains Aidan Boivin, Charlie Walls, and Stephan Walls.

“I had the pleasure of coaching these three young men a few years ago at Framingham’s outstanding fall in-house developmental league at Loring Arena. They are all outstanding leaders both on and, more importantly, off the ice. The fact that they were able to organize the team during the summer and fall, lacking a head coach at the time, speaks volumes about their high character, maturity, accountability, and respect for their team,” said Coach Clark.

“I am already seeing Aidan come into his own during the beginning of what will be a strong offensive senior year. Juniors Stephen (or Louie as we call him) and Charlie Walls will no doubt contribute mightily as well, with Louie continuing his strong offensive production and Charlie anchoring a stout defense on the back end,” said the head coach.

There are four seniors on the team, Bolvin, Nick Holman, Cooper Serocki, and Jacob Shore.

“Our senior leaders Jacob Shore, Cooper Serocki, and most-improved from last season Nick Holman are all eager to finish their Keefe Tech careers on a strong note,” said Coach Clark. “I consider them part of our core leadership group, as their on-ice dedication and off-ice character have played a huge role in setting the right tone and culture for our program long before my arrival.”  

“Junior Reid Campbell has developed into a strong and reliable player with strong offensive skills, and goalie Casey Horrigan continues to elevate her game to a high level. Along with the Walls twins, they have contributed so much and we would not be a successful team without them,” said Coach Clark. 

“Our sophomore class is small in number, but has had a huge impact on our team from what I can see in my short time with the team these past couple of weeks,” said the head coach.

“Forwards John Martell and Chris Anastos have and will continue to play a huge role in our offense,” said Coach Clark. “Goalie Huy Burnham continues to develop into an excellent, dependable goaltender. 

“The future of our program is bright with our freshman class,” said Coach Clark. “From an on-ice / hockey perspective, I’m just getting to know them but I am already impressed with Zeke Bogosian, Mattias Colantropo, Matt Day, Max Desautelle, Austin Dobson, Andrew Eisenstein, goalie John Hedderman, Zach Lysaght, Eli Schachter and Jake Radzwill who will be playing the vital role as Team Manager this season.”

While the Broncos may practice across the street from the Framingham-based vocational school, all of the team’s League games are at Northstar ice Sports in Westborough.

The first game of the season is Sunday, December 11 against Worcester at 6:20 p.m. at NorthStar Ice Sports.

The Broncos have a 12-game regular season schedule.

“I am very fortunate to have such high quality assistant coaches in John McGuire and Jay Ball return this season. They are outstanding both on and off the ice,  and have helped tremendously as we transition into a new season with incoming and returning players,” said Coach Clark.

“I can see all of our players responding already to their direction and feedback, and I’m looking forward to seeing that continue this season,” said Coach Clark. “Keefe Tech Hockey is heading in the right direction and I can’t wait to see these players compete this season.” 

“I believe Keefe Tech Hockey has tremendous potential, not just this season, but beyond,” said Coach Clark. “The support I have seen for this program from the greater community has been tremendous, and frankly, unexpected. We are having success and scoring many intangible ‘wins’ even before we’ve played our first game. I’m confident that we can continue to build on that if we focus on what’s important and do the right things consistently.”
