Mayor Sisitsky Declares Oct. 20-27 Devin Suau Week in Framingham

FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky has officially declared Devin Suau Week in Framingham, which will begin October 20, 2022 and run through October 27, 2022 in remembrance of Framingham resident Devin Suau, who died on October 20, 2017.

Devin Suau was a Framingham resident who passed away at the age of 6 due to Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of pediatric cancer. Each year, the City remembers Devin and his large impact, through a bproclamation declaring Devin Suau Week, lighting up the City Hall green, and various posts asking the public to perform acts of kindness in his memory.

Mayor Sisitsky made the announcement at a morning ceremony on Wednesday, October 19 at Stapleton Elementary School. At the ceremony, he and First Lady Robin Kaye, presented a proclamation to Christine Soutter and Brendan Suau, Devin’s mother and brother, respectively, as well as Stapleton Elementary School officials, declaring Devin Suau Week.

Following the ceremony, where Devin’s mother in turn donated the citation to Stapleton Elementary, the Mayor, First Lady, and Christine read Devin’s favorite books to the three kindergarten classes.

In his memory, the public are asked to perform acts of kindness. To start off Devin Suau Week and perform an act of kindness, Mayor Sisitsky and First Lady Robin Kaye presented each Kindergarten class with a gift of Devin’s two favorite books and weighted blankets for their comfort corners.

“It is my honor to declare Devin Suau Week here in Framingham. Devin’s courageous story is one that should be continuously remembered. Through his life, he helped show what a strong, connected, and kind community Framingham is at its core,” said Mayor Sisitsky. “His memory continues to make our community, and the world, a better, kinder place through awareness of DIPG and act of kindness campaign.”

The October 20 date recognizes the day Devin passed away, which was only seven days short of his 7th birthday, October 27.

Lights at City Hall will turn green starting the night of October 19 in his memory.

In response to his passing, Devin’s family set up “The WhyNotDevin Foundation to End DIPG”. The goal of the foundation is to help alleviate a part of the enormous financial burden this diagnosis carries for families.
