BOSTON – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts reported 132 deaths COVID-19 today, May 7. That brings the total number of fatalities due to the coronavirus since the pandemic in Massachusetts to 4,552.
The state reported 1,696 new cases in the last 24 hours. That brings the total number of positive cases in Massachusetts to 73,721.
The State of Massachusetts has more positive COVID-19 cases than the entire country of Canada, which has 65,795 total cases.
The state tested almost 12,000 individuals in the last 24 hours
As of May 7 at 4 p.m., the state has tested 351,632 individuals.

Massachusetts ranks third in the United States behind New York, and New Jersey for the most positive cases.
There is no cure and no vaccine for COVID-19, at this time.

Two weeks ago, the number of COVID-19 cases hospitalized was at 9%. A good sign is the number has been 5% over the weekend and every day this week.
Another good sign, the number of individuals in ICUs in the state is under 900 for the first time in weeks.
Middlesex County has the most positive cases at 16,676. In comparison, Barnstable County on Cape Cod has 1,021 cases.
The United States now has the most confirmed cases worldwide 1.245 million cases as of 4 p.m. May 7.

Worldwide, there are more than 3.81 million confirmed cases.
The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 70,802 deaths as of noon, May 6.
The U.S. is leading the world in COVID-19 deaths, with more than 26,000 deaths in New York.
