Mayor Wants To Re-Appoint Framingham Parks & Recreation Director

FRAMINGHAM – Mayor Yvonne Spicer wants the 11-member City Council to approve her re-appointment of Framingham Parks & Recreation Director James Snyder.

Synder was hired by the Town of Framingham in 2014. In 2016, he became the director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, when former Director James Duane became Assistant Town Manager under then-Town Manager Bob Halpin.

Synder has served in that role, overseeing the Parks & Recreation Deaprtment and the Callahan Center since July 2016.

“Over the past several years, he has been responsible for overseeing all of the parks, recreation areas, trails, Loring Arena, senior services and cemeteries. He has been directly involved in planning the Mary Dennison Park remediation and design as a park, 150 Irving Street Pocket Park, the Chris Walsh Memorial Aqueduct Connection Trail, and the development of a dog park in Framingham,” wrote the Mayor in announcing her plans to re-appoint Synder for another 3-year term to the City Council on April 16.

“He has implemented programs, such as programs for mentally and physically disabled individuals, exemplified by the successful adaptive skating, dancing and hockey programs. He also oversees a number of capital improvement programs, such as the Loring Arena and Waushakum Beach Bathhouse,” wrote the Mayor.

Under the Charter, the City Council has 30 days to approve or reject the appointment.

The City Council is likely to send the appointment to the council’s subcommittee on appointments headed by District 6 Councilor Phil Ottaviani Jr. before taking an official vote.
