Framingham School Committee Votes To Have Remote Learning During April Vacation

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham School Committee voted tonight, April 13 to have remote learning take place during April school vacation week (April 21-25).

The vote was 8-0.

District 2 School Committee member is sick and did not participate.

The final day of the school year will now be Thursday, June 18.

Without the vote, the last day of school would have be June 24.

“This is a complex issue,” said Superintendent Bob Tremblay.

Superintendent said he asked high school students, parents, and Framingham Public School staff to take a survey on the matter.

More than 6,000 responses and more than 75% preferred school learning take place during the traditional school vacation day.

Patriots Day is still a state holiday on April 20. There is no remote learning scheduled for that day.

The Governor has said the earlier schools could return to the classrooms is May 4.

District 7 School Committee Member Tiffanie Maskell said she would have elementary student have 4 more days face-to-face with their teacher in June.

“But it is evident the community” and the staff prefer to have remote learning during the vacation week.

District 5 School Committee member Priscila Sousa asked how do we motivate our high school students to motivate them to do remote learning.

Staff has been working around the clock with this remote learning, said Tremblay. “I wish this was easier. … and I know you are exhausted.”
