NATICK – Natick Police said they are searching for a firearm that fell off the roof of a vehicle near a Natick elementary school.

“A person has reported that they inadvertently left a firearm on top of their vehicle and it may have fallen off in the area of Lilja School. The area has been thoroughly searched by police and is being searched again. If you see anything, please do not handle it and call 9-1-1 immediately,’ said Natick Police Chief Hicks in an alert. “As a precaution Officers will be stationed in the area for the start of school today.”

The driver of the vehicle was a visitor to a private residence in Natick and self-reported the incident, said Natick Police.

“Our K-9 Team, as well as the MSP K-9 who is specifically trained for firearm recovery, searched with other units throughout the night and early hours. The firearm was not lost on school grounds but the vehicle took a route that led past the school,” said Natick Police.

“Obviously, this led to concern for the kid’s safety. Natick Public Schools also alerted parents. This would be a great opportunity for parents to have a discussion with their children about what to do if they ever see a firearm,” said Natick Police.
