Register for 10th Annual Purple Passion 5K To Support Voices Against Violence Organization

FRAMINGHAM – Voices Against Violence will hold its 10th Annual Purple Passion 5K walk/run on Saturday, September 18.

Given the current public health COVID-19 pandemic, Voices Against Violence made the decision to move to a hybrid walk/run to accommodate our community while keeping everyone as healthy and safe as possible.

A hybrid 5k walk/run offers participants both in-person and virtual experiences.

The events on Sept. 18 kickoff at 7;30 a.m. with honorary chair Senate President Karen E. Spilka speaking. The walk/run starts at 8 a.m.

The goal is to raise $50,00 to support survivors in the MetroWest community with free, confidential services. 

Early bird registration ends August 15. Cost is $30 For individuals running the Purple Passion 5K and want to be officially timed by RaceWire. The Early Bird Registration fee includes a Purple Passion t-shirt and bib.

Children under age 10 are free.

The losses from COVID have been significant.

The pandemic has exacerbated inequities in our healthcare system and economy. For survivors of sexual and domestic violence, the consequences of forced isolation added to their trauma in dangerous ways. For many, returning to “normal” is not what they want, said the organization on its website.

The organization, based in Framingham, sees this time as an opportunity to reflect on how we serve survivors and what the future delivery of our mission will look like.

“This last year has been a time of important learning for us. The need for our services increased dramatically,” noted the organization on its website.

As we step off into what we hope is a brighter future for all of us, Voices is examining how we can improve our response and lessen the disparities that affected so many, including:

• Incorporating new tools to serve survivors into our regular practice.  This last year, we created new ways to support survivors online and through various platforms, allowing us to help more survivors and increase access to our services. We will continue these practices in the future. 
• Rebuilding our community networks and mobile advocacy program to literally meet survivors where they’re at, removing many of the barriers that can keep survivors from seeking help.
• Expanding our prevention trainings in the schools, capitalizing on online learning with new ways to reach students.
• Increasing clinical group services online in English and Spanish, expanding access to this highly supportive tool for survivors.

Voices Against Violence is a dual domestic violence and sexual assault agency with a mission to end violence in the MetroWest Area by providing free, confidential, and multilingual services.  The advocacy team works to empower survivors and their loved ones by supporting their healing process. We also provide primary prevention education to students, professionals, and community members by addressing the root causes of violence.
