Global COVID-19 Deaths Surpass 2 Million

WASHINGTON DC – Deaths worldwide due to COVID-19 surpassed the 2 million mark over the weekend.

It took nine months for the worldwide death count to hit 1 million, but only three months to double that number, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

The United States is expected to surpass 400,000 COVID deaths next week.

Brazil is second for COVID-19 deaths worldwide around 200,000, with India third around 150,000. Mexico is fourth and the United Kingdom is fifth at just about 90,000 deaths.

China, where the coronavirus is thought to have started, has reported only 4,799 virus-related deaths.
