NATICK – Ira C. Foss, III, 68 of Sherborn, surrounded by the love of his family with his favorite songs softly playing on Saturday, October 3, 2020.

Born in Boston to the late Ira C., Jr. and Nancy S. Foss. Known to family and friends as “Skip,” he grew up in Wellesley and was a longtime resident before moving to Sherborn.

He started working at Pilibosian Rugs as a young man and became owner in 1993. Skip later worked at the Foss family business, Scarborough Realty Trust in Watertown, until his retirement.

He was a 30+ year member of Sincerity Lodge No. 173 I.O.O.F. and former Kiwanis Club member.

Skip was known by customers, business people, family and friends for his amazing people skills, great sense of humor and easygoing manner. In the early days, Skip enjoyed playing golf, showing off “Alvin,” his ’61 Valiant, at Slant Six car shows and dabbling in genealogy. He loved watching the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox, and enjoyed coaching daughter Sharon’s softball team when she was younger.

Some of the most beloved family memories include trips to Florida, Old Orchard Beach and his childhood vacation destination of Prouts Neck in Scarborough, Maine. The family took annual vacations to Salisbury Beach for many years where, as a child at heart, Skip was an enthusiastic sand sculpture builder and body surfer at the beach with his daughters and a master Ms. Pac-Man player at the arcade.

Skip had a passion for music and movies – he was an avid concert-goer, especially the Voices of MetroWest of which daughter Jen is a member, and always looked forward to visiting the theater. After becoming a foodie later in life, Skip became known for his love of cooking and was always up for trying a new recipe – especially when it came to his beloved grill and smoker.

Family has always been at the center of Skip’s world and heart. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years Susan, and daughters Jen and wife Jess, and Sharon and husband Greg. Adored Grampie to Mackenzie, with whom he spent many loving hours baking cookies, decorating gingerbread houses, coloring and snuggling watching her favorite shows. Also survived by his brothers Frank and wife Charlene, and Stephen and wife Sarah; uncles Peter Foss and wife Linda, and John Shaw and wife Carol; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Skip touched more lives than can be counted. He will live on forever in our hearts.

Funeral Service and Interment will be private.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when family and friends can safely gather to share memories of Skip.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Skip may be made to Baypath Humane Society, 500 Legacy Farms North, Hopkinton, MA 01748 http://www.baypathhumane.org or to Stray Pets in Need, PO Box 812143, Wellesley, MA 02482 or http://www.straypetsinneed.org.

Arrangements by Everett Funeral Home in Natick.
