NATICK – John Wright Meadows, 87, of Natick passed away on August 18, 2020 after an illness that was not Covid related.

Beloved husband of Lilyanne G. (Guide) Meadows.  Devoted father of John M. Meadows and his wife Robin of Whitinsville, Barbara J. Ordway and her husband Kevin of Natick, and Kelly Meadows-Symes and her husband Erik of Maynard.  Loving grandfather of Samantha, Ryan, Nicholas, Shauna, Veronica and Jack.  Great grandfather of Brayden, Skyla, and Zacchaeus.  Brother of the late Barbara Jean Zedick, Patricia Ann Meadows and Mary Francis Foster-Zedick.  Son of the late Virgil E. Meadows and Frank and Mary M. (Mulligan) Murphy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was a graduate of Northeastern University and the Harvard Business School.

He also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during Korea.

John was also one of the founders of the West Suburban ice skating rink in Natick.

John’s entrepreneurial spirit also led him to start an office furniture sales business that is still operating after 41 years in business and his legacy in this is being carried on by his son and grandson.

Throughout his life, John was actively involved in many civic organizations, and worked tirelessly as a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund, a cause that was particularly close to his heart.  He was recognized with the distinction of “Pacesetter,” for his ability to raise large sums through his outreach efforts to help find a cure for childhood cancer.

Each year, for 17 years, he walked the Jimmy Fund Boston Marathon from Hopkinton to Boston, completing his last full marathon at the age of 79. He believed in the motto: “Those that can, do; those than can do more, volunteer.” John inspired us all to strive to be our best in all we did, because that is how he lived his life.

While John accomplished many things in his life of which to be proud, nothing brought him greater joy than the life he and Lily created together, raising their family.  He celebrated every milestone of each of his children, and utterly rejoiced in witnessing the ever-expanding circle of love through marriage and the blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Of all that he taught us through his example, the greatest lesson was to show up for the people you love and cherish them while you are here. In that endeavor, he never faltered. That love will see us through this most difficult time and will sustain us until we are reunited once again.

Please note that due to covid regulations, no one can speak about John at the Church services. However, there will be opportunity for anyone who wishes to speak at the interment services at St. Patrick’s Cemetery immediately following the church services.
