John Joseph Skinnion, age 62 of Framingham, MA passed away March 4, 2025. He was born October 22, 1962 in Boston, MA to Joseph and Mary Skinnion.

John’s world revolved around his family—whether it was spending time on Menauhant Beach with his wife, Donna, or sitting around the backyard firepit with his kids. He devoted his life to working hard for his family so that his four children could all attend the college of their choice. He then became the biggest Cornell, Michigan, Harvard, and Georgetown fan, and he was often seen sporting each school’s gear. If you had to sit behind him in traffic, you couldn’t miss all the college bumper stickers. John loved Jameson Irish Whiskey, cigars, and the occasional lottery ticket.

Before defining himself as a dad, John grew up in Sudbury, MA and attended Marian High School in Framingham. As a young man, he played baseball, hockey, and rugby. At age 25, he started his career at the Sudbury Police Department, before becoming a Framingham Police officer five years later. He would spend the next 32 years with the Framingham Police Department, retiring in January 2025. He loved being an officer and protecting his community in ways big and small. A lifelong dog lover, he naturally gravitated toward police dogs and worked with his K-9 partner, Max, from 1995 to 2001.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary, and his sister, Susan Skinnion. He is survived by his wife Donna (DelPrete), daughter Alexandra and her husband Aaron, daughter Nicole, two sons Michael and Dominic, and his two beloved Golden Retrievers, Rex and Vinny. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Landry and Beth Murphy, as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom he loved deeply.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember John’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Sunday March 9th from 1-5PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning in St. Anselm Church, 100 Landham Rd. Sudbury, at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.

In lieu of flowers, John’s family requests donations to The Jimmy Fund, https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2101&mfc_pref=T&2101.donation=form1, which supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. John’s family is grateful to the doctors and nurses at Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, especially the 6B and 6D nurses, who provided both care and comfort to him and his family.

His family’s gratitude also extends to both the Framingham Police Association and Department for their support during and after his illness.
