FRAMINGHAM – Mayor Charlie Sisitsky and the City of Framingham is now accepting applications for its Hometown Heroes Banner program to recognize military personnel with ties to the City of Framingham.
“This is a wonderful way for the City to recognize the brave men and women who have served in the military,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “This program will pay tribute to Veterans who have selflessly dedicated themselves to our nation, while also serving as a symbol of our gratitude and respect for their courage and devotion to our country, highlighting their steadfast commitment to safeguarding our freedoms.”
“Our hope is that the community embraces this opportunity to honor their local heroes, fostering a deeper connection between the residents and the Veterans who have played pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s history,” said Framingham Veterans Chair Robert Downing. “We encourage families and friends of veterans to submit applications and participate in this meaningful initiative.”
The Hometown Heroes Banner program not only serves as a public acknowledgment but also as an educational tool, reminding the younger generations of the sacrifices made by those who have served.
The banners will be displayed prominently throughout the City, ensuring that these stories of valor and dedication are visible to all.
Each banner will have a photo of a man or woman who served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, or Navy, along with their name, military branch and their rank.
The program will be managed by the Framingham Veterans Council, the Framingham Veterans Department and members of the municipal government.
The City of Framingham is now accepting applications for the second year of the program.
Last year about 30 Veterans were honored in the inaugural launch.
Eligibility
To qualify, honorees must meet the following requirements:
- Must have served in the military
- Must live in Framingham now or have a strong tie to the City of Framingham
The City of Framingham is capping the number of Hometown Heroes Banner program at 75 Veterans for 2025.
Individuals not selected in 2024 will take priority over submission in 2025.
Veterans honored in 2024 are not eligible for the 2025 program.
Applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed. However, if the total number of applications exceeds 75, priority will be given based on conflict: World War I veterans will be prioritized over veterans of the Vietnam War and the Gulf War.
The deadline to submit is Thursday, May 1, at 11:59 p.m. The application will not work after that time.
