Carl F. Buhrer, long-time resident of Framingham, passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 89 years of age. Carl was born in NYC on June 28, 1935, the son of the late Carl G. Buhrer and A. Katherine (Reichert) Buhrer.
After graduating in 1961 with his Ph.D. in Chemistry from MIT, he began work at GTE Labs. Almost thirty-two years later, Carl retired as the Senior Staff Scientist from GTE Labs with 56 patents. He was truly a brilliant scientist.
Carl was the beloved husband of Dorothy “Dotty” (Kunkel) Buhrer for 60 years. He was a devoted and loving father to Carole A. (Buhrer) Mahoney and her husband Brian of Reading, MA and James C. Buhrer and his wife Robin of Andover, MA. Carl was the proud grandfather to Lauren (Buhrer) Flaherty, Caitlin Mahoney, Megan Mahoney, and Michael Buhrer.
Family and friends will honor and remember Carl’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, on Tuesday, February 11th from 4-7 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning in St. George Church, 74 School St. Framingham at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.
