Mary Ellen (Picciani) McCaig, 84, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Sunday, September 15, 2024 after a period of declining health.  Born in Somerville, she was raised by 2nd generation Italians Michael and Evelyn Picciani.

Mary Ellen received her Master’s degree from Cambridge college and went on to devote 23 years to the Framingham Detox.  During her time at the Framingham Detox she helped many clients realize that they were not victims but survivors.

Mary Ellen was witty, fun, smart and sincere.  For several years she faced cancer and was grateful to all the people who supported her during this time.  Mary Ellen loved to swim, spend time with friend and listen to smooth jazz.  She shared many tears and laughs with friends and family that will forever remain alive in our hearts.  Mary Ellen is now home free from pain with all of her friends and family in heaven.  As they sing and dance we remember “Twas Heaven hear with you.”

Mary Ellen was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Dunn, her son, Joseph Kelley, her grandchildren, Julee Douglass and partner Jackson Gonzalez, and Caitlyn Dunn, her great grandchildren, PFC Giovanni Douglass and his wife Lorena Douglass, Giancarlo Gonzalez, and Tati Gonzalez, and her cousins Marianne Mattioli, Gloria Mattioli, Robert Popalo, and Vange Popalo.  Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband Harold (Harkey) Mc Caig, and her parents Michael Picciani and Evelyn Picciani.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary Ellen’s life privately.
