Colonel Bittelari, of Framingham, formerly of Watertown, died on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

He was born on September 7, 1927 to the late John and Christina (Lambert) Bittelari.

Colonel Bittelari retired as a Colonel of the U.S. Army and the Massachusetts Army National Guard, following 40 years of service. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1950. He received a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant in1952. He served in many military positions, during his Antiaircraft Artillery Group, Battery Commander Artillery and the last as commander of the 1st Missile Battalion (Nike Hercules) 24151 Artillery. He was appointed to the position of United States Property & Fiscal Officer (USPFO) of Massachusetts and placed on active duty by the president of the United States on March 1, 1981 and retired from that position on September 30, 1987. Among many awards, he was the recipient of the Legion of Merit and the Army Commendation medal.

He was the husband of the late Anita (Larosa) Bittelari. He was the brother of the late William J. Bittelari, George J. Bittelari, Lillian (Bittelari) Pappas and Theodore J. Bittelari.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Lee Thayer of Franklin; and several nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a time of Visitation on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 2 to 5PM, at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Ave.), FRAMINGHAM. His Funeral Service and Military Honors will follow at 5PM. Burial will be private on a later date.
