FRAMINGHAM – Today, June 1 is a National Day of Mourning in America, as more than 100,000 lives have been lost to COVID-19.
The City of Framingham participated in the event with a moment of silence at noon.
Earlier this morning, Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer released a video about the national day of mourning.
“Today we grieve for America. We are reminded of the losses throughout this pandemic. As a community, we take a collective pause to think about all of the lives that have been affected by COVID-19,” said the Framingham Mayor.

“Nationally, over 100,000 people have succumbed to the virus.
In the state of Massachusetts, 6846 people and here in the City of Framingham, 94 people have passed. I ask that you take a moment to think about the families and friends of those lost and send them thoughts of healing and comfort,” said Mayor Spicer.
“Please join me in a moment of silence to acknowledge the lost by saying a quiet prayer, or whisper the name of a person. As a nation, we collectively grieve and ask for healing and calm in this country,” concluded the Framingham Mayor.
