ASHLAND – “While nothing is set in stone, I do not believe we will be engaged in the traditional brick and mortar school day come September for all students,” said Ashland Superintendent of Schools Jim Adams in an email last week.
Last week, the Massachusetts Commission of Education announced state guidelines on schools re-opening for the 2020-21 school year will come in June.
“Recognizing that there is much stress, anxiety, and many questions on what the opening of school will look like in the fall, the Ashland Public Schools has created a District Reopening Task Force,” said Adams.

“This Task Force, which meets weekly, consists of parents, teachers, counselors, nurses, administrators, site council members, ASHPAC, as well as representatives from the board of health, and public safety. With a lack of clear direction from the state and national leadership, the task force has been charged with creating a framework which the Ashland Public Schools will utilize in order to determine what learning looks like in the fall and put in place safeguards for returning to school in the Fall of 2020,” wrote the Ashland Public Schools Superintendent in a email to parents on Friday, May 29.
” I certainly do not know what education will look like, but all indication is that some sort of hybrid model is going to be recommended. To this end, it is important the district gather as much information, seek out the questions the community has, as well as provide answers to those questions which we can,” wrote Adams to parents.

This week “and the week after, I will be hosting community forums where I will answer questions, take feedback, and collect data in order to assist the District Reopening Task Force in preparing a framework for the opening of our schools. Again, much will be predicated on the guidelines from the state which we should have in mid to late June but local concerns must be considered,” wrote Adams to parents.
“I am setting up a ZOOM Webinar, which people can register to attend, as well, the links are provided below. Unfortunately, we can only have 100 people in the webinar at a time, so if you can not make the first one, hopefully, the other times and dates will work. I know many of you have crazy schedules, so I have tried to make times at night, during the morning, and during the afternoon in order to capture the greatest amount of feedback. I will then offer more dates and times,” wrote the Superintendent.
